WESTERVILLE, Ohio - The Mount Union wrestling team defeated the Otterbein Cardinals (3-2, 1-0 OAC) 36-10 in their Ohio Athletic Conference opening dual Tuesday night at the Rike Center.
The Purple Raiders won 8 of 10 matchups to continue the team's perfect record as they improve to 6-0 overall and 1-0 in the OAC.
Ranked 14th, senior Nick Mancini (Boardman/Boardman) kicked off the match with a 9-0 major decision victory over Jackson Lakso at 125. Mancini was joined by his fellow ranked teammates who also secured victories in all of their matches for the the Raiders. #8 Alec Cotton won by forfeit at 141, #5 Jesse Gross (Norwalk/St. Paul) defeated Willy Plaisir 5-3 at 165 and #16 Isaiah Watson-Kirksey (Alliance/Alliance) defeated Donny Didion by major decision 11-3 at 184.
Freshman Luke Hernandez (Nashport/Tri-Valley) continued to be victorious at 149 for Mount Union with a tech fall over Michael Duzzny at 27-9, 14 of those points all being scored in the first period. Now 10-1, Hernandez has scored a total of 129 points against his opponents in his eight-match win streak.
Junior Mike Sinclair (Ellwood City, Pa./Lincoln) finished off the match for Mount Union with a pin at 0:59 over Nate Temple at 285.
Next up for the Raiders is the Messiah Petrofes Invitational in Mechanicsburg, Pa. hosted by #6 Messiah College that will take place Friday, December 1 through Saturday, December 2.
