UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – Mount Union's women's swimming and diving team opened their Ohio Athletic Conference campaign with a 204-80 loss at John Carroll Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders were led by senior Dana Lautenschleger (Solon/Solon), who won all three of her individual events. Lautenschleger won the 1000-yard freestyle (10:54.96), 500-yard freestyle (5:21.48) and the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.07) while also finishing second in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Joining Lautenschleger were fellow seniors Ann Zielasko (Silver Lake/Archbishop Hoban) and Jenna Kassinger (Silver Lake/Cuyahoga Falls) and sophomore Elise Pichola (Rocky River/Rocky River) finishing with a time of 1:45.27.
The team also came away with a few second-place finishes as freshman Lauren Stajcar and junior Lauren Oktavec touched the wall second in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard backstroke, respectively. Stajcar finished with a time of 1:10.99 while Oktavec with a time of 2:13.49. Freshman Sarah Hrycyk (Massillon/Jackson) placed second in the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 161.35.
Next up, the Purple Raiders will return home for another dual meet, this time welcoming Oberlin to Alliance November 11.
