Swimming and Diving: Mount Union Defeats Wilmington on Senior Day

ALLIANCE, Ohio - The Mount Union men's swimming and diving team defeated Wilmington 175-80 Saturday afternoon in an Ohio Athletic Conference dual meet. 

It was the final regualr season meet for the six men senior swimmer Kyle Greig (Mentor), Noah Kee (Canton / GlenOak), Cole Ellsworth (Temperance, Mich. / Bedford), Joseph Palmquist (North Huntingdon, Pa. / Norwin), Logan Palochak (Hopewell, Pa. / Hopewell), and Robert Ranallo (Willoughby / Gilmour Academy). 

Leading the way for the Purple Raiders (6-2, 2-2 OAC) was Palochak recording three wins in the 50-yard butterfly, 50-yard freestyle, and the 200-yard medley relay with help from freshman Charles Marshall (Painesville / Riverside), sophomore Nick Dye (Massillon / Massillon Jackson), and Kee. 

Other first place finishes came from freshman Nathan Williams (Columbia, S.C. / Irmo) in the 1650-yard freestyle, sophomore Brett Scheib (Gibsonia, Pa. / Hampton) in the 200-yard freestyle, sophomore Owen Zimmerman (Crawfordsville, Ind. / Southmont) in the 50-yard backstroke, Dye in the 50-yard breaststroke, Palmquist in the 200-yard butterfly, freshman Jason Tondra (Canton / Massillon Jackson) in the 100-yard freestyle, sophomore Ben Hoffmann (St. Cloud, Minn. / St. Cloud Technical) in the 200-yard backstroke, and Ellsworth in the 500-yard freestyle.

The men's team is back in action Friday, Jan. 24 hosting Youngstown State at 7 p.m. in Alliance.

The Mount Union women's swimming and diving team also defeated Wilmington in an Ohio Athletic Conference dual meet Saturday afternoon 153-102.

It was the final regualr season home meet for the two women senior swimmers, Elise Pichola (Rocky River) and Marcy Spann (North Royalton / Cuyahoga Falls).

The Raiders (4-4, 2-2 OAC) were led by Pichola, sophomore Lindsey Collins (Uniontown / Massillon Jackson), sophomore Aurelia Incristi (Rockwall, Tex. / Rockwall), and junior Lauren Stajcar (Strongsville) all posting two wins. 

Pichola, Collins, Incristi, and junior Maggie Gyurke (Bellevue / St. Mary Central Catholic) started the meet off taking first place in the 200-yard medley relay. Pichola also grabbed first in 50-yard butterfly, Collins won the 50-yard backstroke, and Incristi claimed first in the 50-yard freestyle. Stajcar went on to win the 50 and 200-yard breaststroke events. 

Other first place finishes came from freshman Alexis Schuller (Middleburg Heights / Berea-Midpark) in the 1650-yard freestyle, sophomore Callie Landry (Broussard, La. / Teurlings Catholic) in the 200-yard freestyle, freshman Grace Bjordahl (Yucaipa, Calif. / River Springs) in the 200-yard butterfly, and Spann in the 500-yard freestyle. 

The next meet for the women will be when both teams swim at Notre Dame College Friday, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m. in South Euclid, Ohio.
