TIFFIN – No. 10 ranked Mount Union won the Ohio Athletic Conference title outright with a 25-18 victory at Heidelberg in a conference dual Tuesday at Seiberling Gymnasium.
The Purple Raiders finish 7-0 in conference duals to claim their 15th conference title and are 15-3 overall with 13-straight conference dual wins dating back to the 2017-18 season.
Seth Hayes (Rootstown) got the match started with a pin just before the end of the second period at 125 pounds and David Massey (Woodridge) scored a 7-4 win at 133 pounds to give the Raiders an early 9-0 lead.
Heidelberg (5-12, 3-4 OAC) then strung together four straight wins -- a 5-0 win at 141 pounds, then No. 4 ranked Luke Hernandez (Nashport / Tri-Valley) was forced to take an injury default 42 seconds into the 149 pound match and decisions at 157 and 165 pounds gave the Student Princes a 15-9 lead.
Mount Union tied things up at 15-15 as Conner Homan (Loveland) got a pin at 174 pounds.
At 184, Mount Union's George Lassnick (Painesville / Lake Catholic) rallied in the third period to keep No. 3 ranked Dylan Roth from picking up any bonus points but the decision gave Heidelberg an 18-15 lead.
Landon Talbert (Salem / Crestview) did pick up a bonus point for the Raiders in a 10-2 major decision win at 197 and No. 7 ranked Grant Martin (Lake) closed out the match with a pin at 285 pounds.
Mount Union next competes at the NCAA Mideast Regional Friday-Saturday, Feb. 28-29 at Adrian College in Adrian, Mich.
