ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union's wrestling team lost to Ohio Northern, 24-15 in an Ohio Athletic Conference dual Tuesday in Timken Gymnasium.
The Purple Raiders (1-5, 0-2 OAC) managed wins in four of the nine duals but Ohio Northern (6-3, 2-0 OAC) got four decisions, a pin and a forfeit as the Polar Bears won their first dual in Alliance since 2012.
Mount Union's nationally ranked duo of
Jack Stanley (Brecksville / Broadview-Heights), No. 8 at 125 and
David Massey (Cuyahoga Falls / Woodridge), No. 4 at 133, both got wins and bonus points.
Stanley scored a 17-5 major decision while Massey had 17-2 technical fall to get the Raiders an early 9-0 lead.
Mount Union's
Jordin James (Bedford), the 2019 national champ at 133 pounds, made his 21-22 season debut and got an 8-3 win at 141 pounds and the Raiders lead was 12-0.
Ohio Northern then picked up close wins at 149, 157 and 165 to close the gap to 12-9.
The Raiders stopped the run as
David Reinhart (Canfield) picked up a 5-2 win at 174 pounds and it was 15-9.
Ohio Northern put the match away with a win at 184, a pin at 197 and after the 285 forfeit got the 24-15 win.
Mount Union next competes this weekend at the Messiah Petrofes Invitational in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
