WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Mount Union men's swimming and diving team (2-1) took down Wilmington College (0-2) with a final score of 159-88 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup at the Wilmington Natatorium Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Raiders were led by junior Ben Hoffman (St. Cloud, Minn. / St. Cloud Technical) who swept the day with first-place finishes in the 800-meter freestyle (10:37.01), 50-meter freestyle (25.83), 200-meter backstroke (2:16.37) as well as a member of the 200-meter freestyle relay team accompanied by junior Nick Dye (Massillon / Massillon Jackson), junior Jeff LaBianco (Dayton / Chaminade Juilenne), and sophomore Jason Tondra (Canton / Massillon Jackson) with a time of 1:53.84.
Other victories for the Raiders came from junior Brett Scheib (Gibsonia, Pa. Hampton) in the 200-meter freestyle (2:05.23); junior Brian Regovich (Willowick / Eastlake North) in the 100-meter backstroke (1:04.94) and the 100-meter butterfly (1:05.02); Dye in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:10.41) and 200-meter breaststroke (2:41.88); sophomore Maximus Betscakos (Massillon / Massillon Jackson) in the 200-meter butterfly (2:40.16); Tondra in the 100-meter freestyle (55.78); and junior Kyle Kresl (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Carroll) and freshman Eli Holm (Murrysville, Pa. / Franklin Regional) tied for first in the 400-meter freestyle (4:27.76).
The Purple Raiders return home for a Friday night OAC matchup against Ohio Northern Feb. 19 at 6 PM.
