ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union men's swimming and diving team finished the 2021 regular season by defeating Ohio Northern 164-74 in an Ohio Athletic Conference dual Friday at Hammond Natatorium.
The Purple Raiders finish the regular season 3-1 overall and 3-1 in the OAC while Ohio Northern falls to 2-1 and 2-1 in the OAC.
Mount Union was led by junior Isaiah Acosta (Buffalo, N.Y. / St. Joseph) who won the 400-yard Individual Medley (4:20.07) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:15.59) as well as sophomore Jason Tondra (Canton / Massillon Jackson) who secured wins in the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.75) and the 100-yard freestyle (47.61).
Acosta also teamed up with junior Ben Hoffmann (St. Cloud, Minn. / St. Cloud Technical) along with freshmen Eli Holm (Murrysville, Pa. / Franklin Regional) and Andrew Hathaway (Lexington) to secure a victory in the 400-yard Medley Relay with a time of 3:38.53.
Additionally, Tondra, junior Brian Regovich (Willowick / Eastlake North), senior Derek Currey (McDonald, Pa. / West Allegheny), and junior Jeff LaBianco (Dayton / Chaminade Juilenne) got a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:17.01.
Rounding out other victories for the Raiders was junior Brett Scheib (Gibsonia, Pa. / Hampton) in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:32.87), LaBianco in the 50-yard freestyle (21.87), and Hoffmann in the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.91).
Freshman diver Eli Humeniuk (Sylvania / Northview) secured wins in both events with scores of 157.80 and 218.80, respectively.
Mount Union wraps up the 2021 season competing in the OAC Championships held March 25-27 at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
