White and Suglio Join Wrestling Staff

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The University of Mount Union has added Sam White and Stephen Suglio as assistant wrestling coaches for new head coach Ryan Riggs.

White is accomplished wrestler who is competing freestyle and was a resident of the Olympic Training Center, a two-time Fila All-American, a Fila junior All-American, a junior All-American at Fargo and a two-time Cadet Freestyle All-American in Fargo.

As a college wrester at Notre Dame College in South Euclid, Ohio, he was an NCAA DII Regional Champion and a National Championship qualifier.

As a high school wrestler at Perry High School in Massillon, Ohio, he was a two-time OHSAA state champion in 2008 and 2009, a three-time state finalist, a three-time district and sectional champion. He had a career record of 144-7 at Perry and was inducted into the school's hall of fame in 2020.

He has also had coaching stints at Perry, Louisville and Northwest high schools all in Stark County, Ohio. At Louisville, he coached a pair of state champs and the Leopards were state dual meet champs in 2019. He also coached a pair of state placers both at Perry and Northwest.

Suglio is a 2018 Kent State University graduate who had a 93-73 record wrestling for the Golden Flashes. He was an NCAA DI Championship qualifier, placed third in the MAC in 2018, was a MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete in 2018, four-time Academic All-MAC. In 2017, he was seventh in the nation in technical falls and for two seasons led his team in the same category.

A 2013 graduate of Revere High School in Richfield, Ohio, he was an OHSAA state tournament finalist and set school records for wins (127) and pins (78). He was 48-3 his senior senior and won the Bruno Santone Wrestling scholarship.

He has spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach at Revere, and has coached four state qualifiers, the second-ever state champion in school history, while the team finished 11th at the state tournament. He also spent one season as an assistant at Bedford High School.

Mount Union begins the 2021-22 wrestling season November 6 hosting the Mount Union Invitational in Peterson Fieldhouse.
