AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Mount Union's baseball team split a pair of games – falling 4-0 to Roger Williams (R.I.) and beating Oberlin 7-4 Friday at Lake Myrtle Park.
The split brings the Purple Raiders record to 5-5 overall.
Mount Union was held to just two hits in suffering its first shutout of the season against Roger Williams. Roger Williams (2-0) scored single runs in the first and second innings and two in the fifth for their scoring. Carson Davis (Louisville) allowed three runs in 4.2 innings to fall to 0-2.
The Raiders scored two runs in the first inning on a Walker Marlowe (Berlin Center / Western Reserve) RBI single and on an Oberlin throwing error.
Mount Union added to its lead with an RBI single from Eric Schilling (Stow / Stow-Munroe Falls) in the fifth, but Oberlin responded with two in the sixth to make it 3-2.
The Raiders came right back in the bottom of the sixth manufacturing runs off a balk and a wild pitch before Nate Duliba (Berea / Berea-Midpark) had a two-run single to take the score to 7-2.
The Yeomen attempted a comeback with a run in the seventh and a ninth and loaded the bases in the ninth before the 7-4 final.
Dwayne Sumler (Indianapolis, Ind. / Pike) allowed just two runs on two hits and struck out eight over the first six innings. Ryan Osman (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Moon) went the final three innings to pick up the save.
Mount Union plays North Park (Ill.) Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Lake Myrtle Park.
