ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Mount Union men's wrestling team opened its 2023-24 season as hosts of the Mount Union Invitational on Saturday.

The Purple Raiders finished 8^th out of 10 teams with 67 points. Gannon won with a team score 200, followed by Campbellsville in second (171) and Ohio Athletic Conference foe Ohio Northern in third (168.5). About 200 wrestlers competed in the event.

Sophomore Darese Sparkman (Massillon, OH / Massillon Perry) won at 149, topping classmate Nicholas Nettleton (Exeter, PA / Exeter Township) who finished runner-up.

Other Top-8 finishers for Mount Union were senior Jack Stanley (Brecksville, OH / Brecksville-Broadview Hts.) (6^th/125), sophomore Nolan Frye (Cleveland, OH / Walsh Jesuit) (8^th/133), sophomore Ambrose Boni (Aliquippa, PA / Central Valley) (8^th/141), and freshman Blake Kaminski (Stow, OH / Stow-Munroe Falls) (8^th/165).

Mount Union will next compete in the Case Western Reserve University Bob Del Rosa Intercollegiate Open on Sunday, November 12 with a start time of 10 a.m.
