LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Mount Union Hall of Fame wrestler Rae McDonald '75 is a US Open Champion, following his win in the Freestyle Masters Division over the weekend in Las Vegas.
McDonald, a member of the Mount Union M Club Hall of Fame, was the school's first All-American and Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Champion. He finished his Hall of Fame career as a two-time All-American and four-time OAC Champion. McDonald never lost a conference match (45-0-2). He also helped Mount Union win its first OAC team title. McDonald was the first African-American to become a two-time Division III All-American in the history of collegiate wrestling (one of only three African-Americans to first earn All-American honors).
"He continues to be such an inspiration and gives so much to the wrestling community," said the Mount Union wrestling team.
