Baseball: Raiders Put Up Double-Digit Runs for Second-Straight Game in Win at Thiel

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Mount Union baseball team took care of business in a non-conference game at Thiel on Sunday with a 13-2 win – the Purple Raiders' second-straight win with double-digit runs.
 
The Purple Raiders (23-10) scored one run in the second, four in the third, six in the sixth, and two in the eighth. The Raiders outhit the Tomcats 14-6.
 
Graduate Zack Mazza (Flint, Mich. / Powers Catholic) and senior Jaired Lehman (Monroeville, Pa. / Gateway) both had a game-high three RBIs, while Mazza added a game-best three runs scored and had a double. Senior Andrew Witte (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) went 3 for 5 with two runs scored and a RBI, to go along with a sacrifice hit.
 
Freshman pitcher Chase Mayer (Amherst, Ohio / Amherst Steele) got the start and went 4.2 innings, allowing only one run off three hits and striking out seven. Freshman Ty Dennison (Hudson, Ohio / Hudson) earned the win, the first of his collegiate career, after coming in for relief, pitching 3.1 innings and only giving up one run off two hits and striking out five.
 
Mount will next play against Wooster at Canal Park, home of the Akron RubberDucks, on Wednesday, April 24 at 10:30 a.m., part of Education Day. Tickets are $5.
