BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Mount Union men's tennis team won, 5-1, on the road over Geneva by finishing strong in each match on Friday.
The Purple Raiders swept the doubles competition, led by the no. 1 duo of junior
Elliott Warner (New Philadelphia, Ohio / New Philadelphia) and freshman
Nick Sziraky (Uniontown, Ohio / Green) who won in tie-breaking fashion 7-6 (7-4). Sziraky also won no. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-2.
Sophomore
Andrew Cavett (Beaver, Pa. / Beaver Area) came back and won no. 2 singles (4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (7-3)) and teamed up with classmate
Jacob Timonere (Ashtabula, Ohio / St. John) for a 6-2 win at no. 2 doubles. Timonere also earned a singles win at no. 4 (6-0, 6-3).
Freshman
Luke Deland (Salem, Ohio / Salem) won a thriller at no. 5 singles as he was down a set and won set two 6-4 and outlasted Ethan Mullen 14-12 in the third and deciding set. Additionally, Deland and sophomore
Noah Fink (North Canton, Ohio / Glenoak) won no. 3 doubles (6-4).
Mount Union will next play Franciscan on Sunday, March 2 at the Wheeling Indoor Tennis Center with a 5 p.m. start.
