DANVILLE, Va. – The Mount Union men's wrestling team had an impressive day at the NCAA Division III Region IV on Friday as five Purple Raiders put themselves in position to qualify for the NCAA Championships including three wrestlers competing in the semifinals tomorrow in the final day of regionals. Averett University is hosting.
One win away from qualifying for the NCAA Championships with a top-3 regional finish is senior
Bryce McCloskey (Greenville, PA / Reynolds) who will face Ohio Northern's Gavin Layman at 197, sophomore
Steven Marra (Salem, Ohio / West Branch) who will wrestle Ohio Northern's Myles Johnson at 285, and freshman
Josh Carman (Carrollton, OH / Carrollton) will battle Washington and Jefferson's Taylor Smith at 149 – all will be competing in the semifinals of their respective weight class.
Additionally, junior
Nolan Frye (Valley View, OH / Walsh Jesuit) at 133 and freshman
Ridge Barkley (Morral, OH / Marion Harding) at 141 each have one loss and can qualify for the NCAA Championships with three more wins apiece.
As a team, Mount Union is sixth out of 20 teams with five place winners.
