DAVENPORT, Fla. - The Mount Union baseball team (4-4) picked up a big 14-10 win over Mitchell College (2-8) on Monday. The Purple Raiders' offense had a consistent and dominant performance, staying hot throughout the whole game.
Senior shortstop Alex Stegman (Berea, Ohio / Berea-Midpark) dazzled, going 4-for-5 with a triple, three RBIs, and a walk. Freshman outfielder
Chris Tsouras (Las Vegas, Nevada / Arbor) went 3-for-5 with a booming opposite-field two-run home run to deep left field in the sixth inning. Tsouras has hit a home run in two of the last three games.
Senior third baseman Chris Viamonte (Naples, Florida / Coral Gables) had a strong performance, going 2-for-5 with a walk and three RBIs, including an RBI ground-rule double to deep left field in the eighth inning.
Mount Union held a 9-8 lead heading into the seventh inning, and the offense produced five runs between the seventh and eighth innings, helping secure the 14-10 victory.
Sophomore right-handed pitcher Ty Dennison (Hudson, Ohio / Hudson) earned his second win out of the bullpen, pitching 2.1 innings with a strikeout. Junior right-handed pitcher Jeremy Moore (Stow, Ohio / Stow-Monroe) earned his first save of the season, pitching 3.0 innings with four strikeouts.
Mount Union's next game will be Friday at 9:15 AM against no. 3 nationally-ranked Johns Hopkins.
