CORALVILLE, Iowa – Mount Union women's wrestling freshman Abigail Mozden (Alliance, OH / Alliance) made history at the inaugural 2026 NCAA Women's Wrestling Championship.

On Saturday, Mozden at 131 lost to No. 1-ranked and four-time champion Division II McKendree's Cameron Guerin, 14-4, in the semifinals and to Cassia Zammit out of Division II West Liberty, 13-8, in the consolation semifinals. However, Mozden continued to impress on the national stage as she secured fifth place with her third pin at NCAAs, this time over No. 7 nationally ranked Janida Garcia from Emmanuel University (Georgia), etching her name in the Mount Union Athletics record books as the first All-American in women's wrestling history. 

"I am very proud of Abbie!" second-year head coach Clay Wenger exclaimed. "This accomplishment is well deserved. She works hard and is a great leader! This is huge for our program. She showed everyone that you can win at Mount Union and accomplish great things on and off the mat!"

Mozden, currently ranked fifth across all divisions at 131, started her legendary NCAA run on Friday, defeating NCAA Division II Piper Cadden out of Chadron State, 8-2. Then finished the night with a Hollywood ending, down 7-4 to No. 4 nationally ranked Karlee Brooks out of NCAA Division I Iowa and winning in dramatic fashion as she pinned Brooks for the win.

As the NCAA Championships are still in progress, Mozden can potentially win the Most Pins in the Tournament award, and Mount Union is currently in the top 25 as a team in the country. 

Mount Union, under the guidance of Wenger, is only in its second season as a program.
