Baseball: No. 8 Mount Union Celebrates Senior Day

ALLIANCE, Ohio - The No. 8 nationally ranked Mount Union baseball team (28-8) lost to Westminster (26-10) with a final score of 11-6 on Senior Day for the Purple Raiders. Mount Union honored six seniors: Leo Fornara (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Chagrin Falls), Nate Kazimore (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick), Ryan Romito (North Ridgeville, OH / North Ridgeville), Aidan Schroeder (Pittsburgh, PA / Keystone Oaks), Chris Tsouras (Las Vegas, NV / Arbor), and Anthony Warner (Louisville, OH / Louisville). 
 
Fornara made the start for the Purple Raiders, going 0.2 innings with one strikeout, allowing three runs. Romito came into the game and pitched a strong 4.2 innings, striking out three, but the Titans were able to tack on five runs.
 
The Purple Raiders were down 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning, but they rallied to tie the game. Junior Trevor Szekely was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, allowing a run to score. Then, freshman Luke Perkins hit a two-RBI single to left field, bringing in two more runs to equalize the score. 
 
In the fifth inning, Westminster added three more runs, featuring a two-RBI double from Grayson Eicher. Mount Union responded in the bottom of that inning with a run, as Drew Denham hit a single to left field. The Titans struck back again, scoring two more runs in the sixth inning and three additional runs in the seventh. 
 
The Purple Raiders scored two additional runs, one in the sixth inning and another in the seventh. The seventh inning was highlighted by an RBI double to right-center field from Josh Jenkins. For Mount Union, freshman Evan Roberts pitched 1.2 innings, striking out two batters and allowing three runs. Freshman Logan Ellis followed, pitching 2.0 innings and allowing just one hit with no runs scored. 
 
The comeback attempt for the Purple Raiders fell short, resulting in an 11-6 loss. 

Mount Union's upcoming game is an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at home against Muskingum on Wednesday, scheduled for 1 PM and 3 PM.
