Baseball: Mount Union Ends Historic 2026 Season at NCAA Regionals

SALISBURY, Ohio—The No. 14 Mount Union baseball team concluded its NCAA Tournament trip on Saturday.

The Purple Raiders lost 10-1 to Hobart in the second elimination game.

Mount Union, under the leadership of 30th-year Head Coach Paul Hesse, finished the season 32-12 overall—its most wins in program history.

Against Hobart on Saturday, junior Drew Gernert (Mequon, WI / Homestead) (4-3) got the start, pitching 2.2 innings, giving up two runs off three hits, and striking out three. Sophomore Derek Curry (Pittsburgh, PA / West Allegheny) scored the Mount Union run with an RBI-single in the ninth.

Earlier on Saturday, the Raiders beat Bridgewater State, 15-6—the most runs by the Purple Raiders in an NCAA Tournament game in its second-ever NCAA Tournament victory.

The Purple Raiders advanced to their third NCAA Tournament ever in program history, including in back-to-back years (2026, 2025, and 2013).
