WILMINGTON, Ohio-- Mount Union's men's basketball team defeated Wilmington 92-84 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup Saturday at the Fred Raizk Arena.
Mount Union scored 52 second half points outscoring Wilmington by 13 to overcome a 13 point first half deficit.
The Purple Raiders improve to 14-3 overall and 9-1 in the OAC while the loss drops Wilmington to 6-11 overall and 4-6 in the OAC.
The Purple Raiders were led by sophomore Braedon Poole (McDonald) finishing with a double-double with a career high 19 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Nathan Bower-Malone (Stow) scored 17 points and led Mount Union with five assists.
Jeffery Mansfield had 41 points to pace Wilmington.
Mount Union got its first lead, of 7-5, came off a Poole layup in the first half. A Painter Jr. three ball gave Mount Union a 14-12 lead with 13:22 left in the first half. Wilmington pushed its lead out to 39-26. A 14-4 run to end the half brought the Raiders within five to end the half.
The second half saw five lead changes and four ties. Poole had 13 of his team high 19 points in the second half. Wilmington got its largest second half lead on an Adbul Kanu jumper to go up 65-57 with 11:29 left. Mount Union took the lead 79-77 with another Painter Jr. three ball with 3:56 left in the game. Bower-Malone finished the game hitting five of six free-throws to pull away from Wilmington.
Mount Union returns home to face OAC opponent John Carroll Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. in Alliance.
