Men's Track & Field: Tyler Orewiler Record Setting Day Leads Mount Union on Day One at OAC Championships

WILMINGTON, Ohio -- Mount Union senior Tyler Orewiler (Bucyrus/Colonel Crawford) set school and conference records on the first day of the 2016 Ohio Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships Friday at Wilmington College.

Orewiler won the pole vault with a career-best mark of 17-feet, 5-inches. The mark bested an 11-year old conference record set a new school record is currently second in the nation so far this season and is the eighth-best mark in NCAA Division III history.

The Purple Raiders got another event victory on Friday as junior Jaquill Scott (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park) won the javelin title with a career-best mark of 196-feet, 2-inches that is 11th best in the nation so far this season.

Two other all-conference performances came from Ty Menear (Brunswick/Brunswick) with a second place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:31.62) and Jalen McGill (Laurel, Md./High Point) with a third place finish in the long jump (22-9).

Mount Union totalled 52 points which is 14 points behind day one leader Ohio Northern (66 pts).

The meet concludes on Saturday.
