Mount Union Wins 6th Straight & Record 33rd OAC Outdoor Men's Track & Field Title

WILMINGTON, Ohio -- Mount Union claimed its sixth straight and record 33rd conference title Saturday at the 2016 Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Track & Field Championships at Wilmington College.

The Purple Raiders scored in points in 19 of the 21 events to post 202 total points which was 31 clear of second place Ohio Northern at 171 points.

Mount Union won four events along with five other all-conference performances (top-three finishes) on Saturday.

Freshman Louis Berry (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shadyside Academy) and senior Chad Gentry (Louisville/Louisville) each won an event and were part of a winning relay team.

Berry won the 100 meters with a time of 10.89, Gentry won the 400 meters with a time of 48.22 while the pair combined with junior Andrew Shrewsbury (Woodville/Woodmore) senior Tyler Orewiler (Bucyrus/Colonel Crawford) to win the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 48.22.

The other event winner was freshman Connor Troyer (Sugarcreek/Garaway) in the 110 meter hurdles at 14.85.

On Friday, Orewiler won the pole vault with a career-best mark of 17-feet, 5-inches. The mark bested an 11-year old conference record set a new school record is currently second in the nation so far this season and is the eighth-best mark in NCAA Division III history.

The Raiders got another event victory Friday as junior Jaquill Scott (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park) won the javelin title with a career-best mark of 196-feet, 2-inches.

Junior Ty Menear (Brunswick/Brunswick) was second in the 1500 meters (3:55.14), fourth in 800 meters (1:56.49) and along with a second in the 3000 meter steeplechase (9:31.62) on Friday tallied a team-best 21 points at the meet.

Senior Tyler Shumate (Wapakoneta/Spencerville) posted a second in the hammer throw (174-0), freshman Colten Trimble (Hookstown, Pa./South Side Beaver) was third in the 1500 meters (3:56.87) and Jalen McGill (Laurel, Md./High Point) was third in the long jump (22-9) as the other all-conference marks.
