WAVERLY, Iowa -- Mount Union senior Tyler Orewiler (Bucyrus/Colonel Crawford) was the national runner-up in the pole vault at the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships Thursday at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.

Orewiler, who entered as the No. 2 seed, placed second with a mark of 17-feet, 0.75-inches. Top-seeded Luke Winder of North Central (Ill.) won the national title with a mark of 17-feet, 4.5-inches.

Orewiler, who swept both Ohio Athletic Conference indoor and outdoor pole vault titles this season setting conference and school records in the process, was third in the nation at this year's indoor championships.  He finishes his career as a three-time All-American and earlier this month was given the OAC's Clyde Lamb Award as one of the top 10 male scholar athletes in the conference.

Orewiler also ran on the 4x100 meter relay team with freshman Louis Berry (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy), junior Andrew Shrewsbury (Woodville/Woodmore) and senior Chad Gentry (Louisville/Louisville) that placed ninth and just missed qualifying for the finals by 0.01 seconds with a time of 41.41.

Mount Union has entries in five other men's events as on Friday Berry will run in the 100 meter preliminaries, freshman Connor Troyer (Sugarcreek/Garaway) runs in the preliminaries of the 110 meter hurdles and junior Zack Wukotich (Salem/Salem) will compete in the high jump.  On Saturday, senior Tyler Shumate (Wapakenta/Spencerville) competes in the hammer throw and junior Jaquill Scott (East Hanover, N.J./Hanover Park) throws the javelin.

On the women's side senior Veronica Clutter (Geneva/Geneva) placed sixth and earned All-American honors in the long jump.

Clutter saved her best for last with a lifetime best mark of 18-feet, 11.5-inches to place sixth and her career-second All-American honor in the long jump (2014). She finishes as a three-time All-American as she was part of the eighth place 4x100 meter relay team in 2013.

Sophomore Dana Crofoot (Perry/Perry) also participated in the long jump and came in 22nd place.

Mount Union has one more female competing at the meet as senior Joceyln Sefick (Willowick/Eastlake North) competes Friday in the high jump.
