COLUMBUS, Ohio – Mount Union's men's track and field team, ranked No. 2 in the nation, won its seventh straight and conference record 37th overall team title at the 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Championships Saturday at Capital University in Columbus.
The Purple Raiders tallied 187.5 points which was 76.5 points ahead of second place John Carroll (111)
Mount Union won six out of the 19 events.
Leading the way was senior Tyler Neff (Navarre / Fairless) who won the 400-meter title for the third straight year and followed it up with the 200-meter title and was on the second place 800-meter relay team with sophomore Josh Perry (Cuyahoga Falls), freshman Kendall Shadie (Akron / St. Vincent-St. Mary) and senior Josh Weber (Wadsworth).
Neff was named OAC Sprint Athlete of the Meet for a second straight season.
The final two wins came from junior Louis Berry (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shady Side Academy) in the 60 meter dash with an OAC record time of 6.87 and Mason Plant (Shreve / Triway) in the 60 meter hurdles (8.03).
The top three finishers in each event earn All-OAC honors.
The Raiders got a second place finishes from senior Raphael Tshikala (Rochester, N.Y. / Greece Olympia) in the triple jump (46-2.5), junior Clark Etzler (Elida) in the 500 meters (1:06.77), freshman Mark Worley (North Canton / Hoover) in the 800 meters (1:59.01), junior James Roth (Massillon Perry) in the 400 meters (50:21), sophomore Connor Brogan (Dover) in the weight throw (55- 6.25).
Other all-conference finishes came from third place finishes from seniors Jalen McGill (Laurel, Md. / High Point) in the long jump (21-10.75), Adam Sopchak (Chardon) in the 5000 meters (15:21.81) and Zack Metz (Wadsworth) in the pole vault (14-8.75).
