BEREA, Ohio— Mount Union's men track and field team, ranked No. 3 in the nation, came away with 10 first place finishes Saturday at the Dr. William Taraschke Team Challenge in Berea.
The Purple Raiders had a couple of first and second place finishes in the same event as senior teammates Sean Sherman (Franklin / Bishop Fenwick) and Lucas Cooper (Hanoverton / United Local) did in the shot put with throws of 54-feet 0-inches and 52-feet and 4-inches respectively and then freshman teammates Kyle Wollf (Cleveland / Cuyahoga Heights) and Blaine Kitchen (Tontogany / Otsego) in the pole vault with jumps of 14-feet 1.25-inches and 13-feet 7.25-inches.
Two more freshman picked up wins in the field events with Brody Coleman (Knox, Pa. / Keystone) winning the triple jump for the second straight week with a jump of 45-feet 5.75-inches and Aaron Blevins (Windham) in the high jump took first with a jump of 6-feet, 0.75-inches.
Mount Union picked up multiple relay victories in the meet with the Distance Medley team of senior Ethan Griffith (Salem / West Branch), sophomore Hunter Probert (Gnadenhutten / Indian Valley) with freshmen Justin Knoch (Canton / Glen Oak) and Forrest Long (Geneva) going 11:01.18 and the 4x200-meter team consisting of junior Isaac Phillips (Milford, Mich. / Milford), sophomore Ladedrick Phillips (Irving, Texas / Trinity) with freshmen Gibson Cornett (Canal Winchester) and Josh Momeyer (Livonia, Mi. / Churchill) posting a time of 1:34.32.
The men also won four individual racing titles with senior Kendall Shadie (Akron / St. Vincent-St. Mary) in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.58, junior Carson Troyer (Sugarcreek / Garaway) running 7.91 in the 55-meter hurdles and junior Jon Wahlie (Lima / Shawnee) in the mile (4:32.18), Probert got an individual title running a 2:01.03 in the 800 and freshman Jeff Joseph (Beloit / West Branch) won the 5k with a time of 15:44.84.
Mount Union hosts the Jim Wuske Invitational next Saturday on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 10 a.m. at Peterson Field House in Alliance, Ohio.
