ALLIANCE, Ohio - Junior Elena Rauhe (Seven Hills / Padua Franciscan) scored a career-high 37 points and four steals to lead Mount Union women's basketball team to an 82-75 win over Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Marietta Wednesday evening in Timken Gymnasium.
The Purple Raiders improve to 13-9 overall and 7-8 in OAC play, while Marietta, who was led by Devin Hefner with a team-high 23 points, falls to 11-11 overall and 7-8 in the OAC.
The Pioneers started the game with a 4-0 lead, but freshman Madison Hensley (Blacklick / Gahanna Lincoln) and Rauhe would score five straight points to give Mount Union their first lead of the night. With four ties and six lead changes, Marietta pulled away with 15 seconds remaining in the quarter to take the advantage 17-12.
Junior Brianna Gassman (Minerva) led an 11-5 surge in the second quarter to put the Raiders back on top, 23-22 at the 5:12 mark. Both team went back and forth before the Pioneers took control 32-28. Rauhe scored six points to lead Mount Union in a 10-5 run to reclaim the advantage 38-25 to head into halftime.
The Raiders opened the second half taking their largest lead of the night 45-38. The Pioneers rallied with 58 seconds left in the period to take their largest advantage of the night 62-55. The Raiders ended the quarter getting baskets from Rauhe and sophomore Hailey Peoples-O'Neil (Geneva) to cut the deficit to three, 62-59.
Mount Union went on a 9-0 run to start the final quarter and never trailed the rest of the game, winning 82-75.
The Raiders continue OAC play Saturday, Feb. 15 hosting Heidelberg at 1 p.m.
