Hard work, drive and dedication are words that have become ofthe hallmark of the Mount Union men's basketball under thedirection of 19-year head coach Lee Hood.
Hood is one of only four active Ohio Athletic Conferencewith more than 200 wins (250-246 record in 19 years). He wasOAC Coach of the Year in 1997 as he led the Purple Raiders toa school-record 25 wins, OAC regular season and tournament titlesand the school's first-ever men's basketball NCAA Tournamentbid.
Giving maximum effort and getting results is nothing new forHood. As a four-year letterman at point-guard for Ohio NorthernUniversity, he earned a reputation for being a smart, gritty playerwho made others around him better. While at Northern, Hood was akey member of two OAC championship teams.
A native of Berea, Ohio, Hood graduated from Ada High School in1978, earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education fromOhio Northern in 1982 and a master’s degree in education fromAustin Peay State University in 1983.
Hood spent time as an assistant at the University of NorthCarolina at Wilmington, Newbury College, and Austin Peay beforejoining the Raider coaching staff in 1991 and becoming the headcoach in 1992.
