ALLIANCE, Ohio--Mount Union's volleyball squad (29-4, 8-1 OAC)
defeated Heidelberg (23-9, 7-2 OAC) in three straight games (30-23,
30-23, 30-16) on Saturday in Timken Gymnasium. The Raiders followed
that up with a 3-0 win over Shawnee State (30-21, 30-13, 30-22)
later in the day, closing out the regular season riding a
school-record 15 match win streak.
Against Heidelberg, top performers included Melissa
Mahnke with 15 kills and four digs, teammates Sarah
Parker added 11 kills and 12 total blocks, Amanda
Kohler tallied 12 kills and 21 digs while Sarah
Dean contributed 20 digs. Tracy
Reschke ended the match with 39 assists, 17 digs, and nine
total blocks.
The win over Heidelberg gives the Purple Raiders the #2 seed in
the upcoming Ohio Athletic Conference eight-team tournament which
begins with quarterfinal play Tuesday, October 30. The Raiders will
host #7 seed John Carroll at 7 p.m., Tuesday evening. The top four
teams that advance will play in semifinals and finals action hosted
by the highest seed remaining on Friday and Saturday, November 2
and 3. Ohio Northern, the defending OAC Champions, is the #1 seed
entering OAC Tournament play.
In the 3-0 victory over Shawnee State (18-13), Sarah Parker led
the team in kills with 11, while Melissa Mahnke and Amanda Kohler
added 10. Sarah Dean and Kohler tallied 15 digs respectively, and
Tracy Reschke finished the match with 38 assists and eight
digs.
Heidelberg defeated Shawnee State (3-1) in the final match-up on
Saturday - 30-22, 18-30, 30-28, 30-14.
