CHICAGO, Ill.--Mount Union's volleyball team (12-1) defeated
Trinity Christian (IL) (30-25, 30-17, 30-27) and host Chicago
(30-22, 30-21, 30-15) on the final day of competition at the
Gargoyle Classic on Saturday, September 15. The Purple Raiders
posted a perfect 4-0 record in weekend play to win their third
invitational of the year.
Day Two
Against Trinity Christian the Purple Raiders were led by Amanda Kohler with 14 kills and 18 digs, Melissa
Mahnke with 15 kills, Alexi
Sawayda with three service aces and Tracy
Reschke with 41 assists and 15 digs.
In the final match of the day against Chicago, Sarah Parker led
the team with 13 kills, six service aces, and four blocks while
teammates Sarah Dean and Sawayda totaled 12 and 10 digs
resepectively. Mahnke led the team in kills with 15 and Kohler
added 10. Reschke combined for a total of 41 assists.
The Raiders will open up Ohio Athletic Conference play on
September 19 when they host Ohio Northern in Timken Gymnasium in
Alliance, Ohio at 7:00 p.m.
Tracy Reschke was honored with the tournament`s Most Valuable
Player award and teammate Sarah
Parker earned All-Tournament Team honors.
Day One
Mount Union defeated Augsburg (33-31, 30-22, 31-29) and Defiance
(30-22, 30-22, 30-18) on Friday, September 14 to go 2-0 in first
day play.
In game #1 versus Augsburg, the Raiders were led by Alexi
Sawayda's 19 digs, Sarah Dean's 15 digs, Amanda Kohler's 17 kills,
Leah Hirsch's 11 kills, Sarah Parker's 10 kills and four service
aces, and Tracy Reschke's 43 assists.
Against Defiance, Parker had 14 kills and Melissa Mahnke
collected 13 of her own. Dean totaled 15 digs while Kohler tallied
14 and Sawayda accounted for 13. Reschke dished out 46 assists.
