Women's Basketball Turns Allegheny Over in Win

Freshman Amanda Rose (Uniontown/Green) scored 14 points and had four steals as she was named to the all-tournament team, while senior Stephanie Schwartz (Farmdale/Maplewood) scored 10 points on five-of-six shooting and was named tournament MVP to lead the Raiders.

 

Junior Tessa Pohovey (Strasburg/Tusky Valley) and freshman Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) each had 10 points to round out the double figure scorers for Mount Union (2-0).

 

Mount Union broke the game open with a 14-3 run midway through the second half and went on to take a commanding 41-22 lead at the half as the Raiders held Allegheny to 9-of-22 shooting and forced 12 turnovers in the first half.

 

Allegheny got no closer than 12 points the rest of the way.

 

Mount Union opens the home portion of the schedule Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Bethany (WV) College at Timken Gymnasium in Alliance.
