Mount Union (8-1, 3-1 OAC) never trailed, shot 54.4-percent from
the floor, committed only nine turnovers and outrebounded Otterbein
(2-6, 1-3 OAC), 34-24.
Along with Mathis, Dave Pellerite (Olmsted Falls/Olmsted Falls)
tallied 17 points, Chris Switzer (Euclid/Stow-Munroe Falls) had 15
and Luke Conley (Louisville/Louisville) finished with 13.
Leading 26-24 with seven minutes to go in the first half, Mount
Union finished the frame on a 19-3 run to lead 45-27 at the
break. The Raiders would lead by as many as 24 points in the
second half on their way to the 22-point win.
Mount Union now takes a nine-day holiday break next playing on
Monday, Dec. 29 against Kean (NJ) University in the opening round
of the Mose Hole/Kiwanis Tournament in Wooster, Ohio.
