Freshman Tommie McBride leads
the Raiders in scoring with three points in two
games. |
(DEFIANCE, OH)-Mount Union College men's soccer team tallied
three first half scores on their way to a 4-0 win against Defiance
College Sunday in Defiance, Ohio.
The win evens the Purple Raiders record at 1-1 overall, while
Defiance falls to 0-2 on the season.
Mount Union dominated play in the first half out shooting the
Yellow Jackets, 8-0, and three freshman tallied goals in the first
37 minutes. Tommie McBride (New Waterford/Youngstown Cardinal
Mooney) started the scoring with a goal in the 17th
minute. Seven minutes later, Jared Thacker (Sunbury/Big
Walnut) made it 2-0, then August Martinis (Broadview
Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) got a goal off a corner
kick in the 37th minute to give the Raiders a 3-0 lead at the
break.
Two more freshmen got in the act in the second half as
Kevin Cindric (Willowick/Eastlake North) scored off a feed from TJ
Welch (Columbia Station/Columbia) for the 4-0 final.
All of this was more than enough offense for junior keeper Bobby
Petras (Columbia Station/Columbia) who only had to make one save to
get the shutout.
Mount Union hosts Oberlin College Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the home
opener at Mount Union Stadium.
