(TIFFIN, Ohio)--Unfortunately for the Mount Union College volleyball team it was deja'vu all over again as they suffered a 3-2 loss to Heidelberg College in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener Wednesday in Tiffin.
The Berg, who ended the Purple Raiders record-breaking 2007 season with a 3-2 loss in the semifinals of the OAC Tournament, won for the 10th straight time at home and moved to 11-3 overall and 1-0 in the OAC. Mount Union falls to 11-2 overall and 0-1 in the OAC after the loss.
The Raiders took the opening set 25-18, before Heidelberg battled back to win the second set 25-18 and the third 25-22. Mount Union got a three-point win, 25-22, in the fourth set before the Berg put the match away with a 15-11 in the final set.
Senior Sarah Parker (Geneva/Geneva) had a season-high seven blocks and junior Melissa Mahnke (North Royalton/North Royalton) posted 18 kills and 20 digs, freshman Julie Radigan (Olmsted Falls/Olmsted Falls) chipped in 45 assists while Sarah Dean (Strongsville/Walsh Jesuit) had 28 digs to lead Mount Union.
Mount Union is back in action this weekend and the Carnegie Mellon Crossover Tournament in Pittsburgh, Pa.
