(MEADVILLE, PA)--Freshman Tommie McBride (New
Waterford/Youngstown Cardinal Mooney) scored a goal with just three
minutes left in double overtime to send the Mount Union College
men's soccer team to a 3-2 win at Allegheny College in Meadville,
Pa.
For Mount Union, the win snapped a two-game losing
streak and evened its record at 4-4 overall on the season, while
Allegheny falls to 2-5 overall.
After a scoreless first half, Allegheny started the scoring with
a goal in the 52nd minute. Mount Union then scored a
pair of goals under two minutes as sophomore Korey Smerk
(Brook Park/Midpark) and junior Chris Bondra
(Mentor/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) each tallied unassisted
goals.
The Gators sent the game to overtime with a score in the 78th
minute.
Junior Bobby Petras (Columbia Station/Columbia) played the
entire 117 minutes in goal for the win for the Purple Raiders.
Mount Union returns home for its next game against Thiel (PA)
College Saturday at 7 p.m. in Mount Union Stadium.
