McBride's Goal in Double Overtime Sends Men's Soccer to Win

(MEADVILLE, PA)--Freshman Tommie McBride (New Waterford/Youngstown Cardinal Mooney) scored a goal with just three minutes left in double overtime to send the Mount Union College men's soccer team to a 3-2 win at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa.

For Mount Union, the win snapped a two-game losing streak and evened its record at 4-4 overall on the season, while Allegheny falls to 2-5 overall.

After a scoreless first half, Allegheny started the scoring with a goal in the 52nd minute.  Mount Union then scored a pair of goals under two minutes as sophomore Korey Smerk (Brook Park/Midpark) and junior Chris Bondra (Mentor/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) each tallied unassisted goals.

The Gators sent the game to overtime with a score in the 78th minute.

Junior Bobby Petras (Columbia Station/Columbia) played the entire 117 minutes in goal for the win for the Purple Raiders.

Mount Union returns home for its next game against Thiel (PA) College Saturday at 7 p.m. in Mount Union Stadium.
