First Half Flurry Allows Women's Basketball to Freeze Marietta

The win is the Purple Raiders 10th of the season raising their record to 10-3 overall and keeps them in second place in the OAC at 5-2.   Marietta remains winless in conference action at 0-8 as the Pioneers drop their 11th game in a row.

Mount Union led by as many as 10 points early on before Marietta rallied to close the margin to a point, 27-26 with six minutes to go in the half.  The Raiders then went on what turned out to be a decisive 17-4 surge over the next five minutes to lead 44-30 with just under a minute left in the half.  The Pioneers finished the half with a pair of baskets to go into the lockers down 44-34, but the damage was done as Marietta got no closer than that the rest of the way.

Junior Tessa Pohovey (Strasburg/Tusky Valley) matched her career-high with 19 points and sophomore Katie Crider (Brunswick/Brunswick) had 11 points and six assists to lead Mount Union.

Nikki Driscoll and Amanda Carraher each had 19 to pace Marietta.

Mount Union plays three of its next four games at home starting Saturday at 3 p.m. in an OAC game against Ohio Northern University.
