Second Half Surge Sends Women's Basketball to Win

Mount Union moves its record to 11-4 overall and the Purple Raiders close the first half of the OAC slate with a 6-3 record, while John Carroll falls to 9-7 overall and 4-5 in the OAC.

 

Amanda Rose (Uniontown/Green) matched her season-high with 21 points, Kori Wiedt (North Olmsted/North Olmsted) had 13 points, Taylor Hartung (Canton/Massillon Perry) tallied a season-high 11 points and Lauren Forquer (North Canton/Green) had 10 points to lead Mount Union. 

 

Whitney Hamilton had a game-high 24 points to lead the Blue Streaks.

 

No team led by more than four points in a first half that featured eight lead changes and five ties changes.  Stephanie Schwartz's lone bucket of the half came with 13 seconds left in the half to give Mount Union a 33-32 lead at the break.  

 

John Carroll hit a three-pointer to open the second half before Mount Union scored seven straight points to take control.  The Blue Streaks would close the gap to three points, 51-48, with just over 11 minutes left before the Raiders decisive run.

 

Mount Union starts the second half of the OAC schedule Saturday at 3 p.m. at Muskingum College in New Concord.
