Senior guard Luke Conley (Louisville/Louisville) scored the
final two of his team-high 16 points with 15 seconds left in
overtime to put the Purple Raiders up for good and make their
record 10-8 overall and 4-7 in the OAC.
Fellow senior Chris Switzer (Euclid/Stow-Munroe Falls) tallied 14
and junior Sam King (Masury/Brookfield) also had 13 points for
Mount Union.
Andrew Bene had a game-high 23 points to go along with eight boards
to lead Baldwin-Wallace (6-12, 2-9 OAC).
A back and forth first half featured eight lead changes highlighted
with B-W outscoring Mount Union 13-8 over the final five minutes to
take a 39-31 lead into the lockers.
The Raiders would open the second half on a 23-4 surge to take an
11 point lead, 54-43 on a Trevor Groot (Uniontown/Lake) layup with
11:43 left in regulation. The Jackets came right back as they
scored seven straight to get it back to a four point deficit, 54-50
at the eight minute mark.
Mount Union would hold Baldwin-Wallace at bay until a pair of Bene
free throws with 3:19 left in the period tied the score at
61. The Raiders would score five-straight to lead 66-61,
before Kyle Brown scored five points over the final minute to send
the game to overtime at 66-66.
Both teams would exchange the lead in overtime and B-W went up
71-70 on a Louis Tumblin layup with 31 seconds left. Conley
then hit a layup of his own with 15 seconds left and a LaRon
Marshall (Cleveland/Colinwood) free throw with three seconds
remaining made for the two-point final.
Mount Union returns home to host Heidelberg University Saturday at
3 p.m. at Timken Gymnasium in Alliance.
