Pellerite nailed 6-of-10 shots from the floor and 10 of his
game-high 11 rebounds came on the defensive glass as the Purple
Raiders (11-8, 5-7 OAC) out-rebounded The Berg, 32-27 and generated
21 points off 16 Heidelberg (6-13, 3-9 OAC) turnovers.
Three other Mount Union players scored in double figures as
Chris Switzer (Euclid/Stow-Munroe Falls) had 18 points, Sam King
(Masury/Brookfield) had 16 and Luke Conley (Louisville/Louisville)
finished with 11.
Travis Kinn converted 14-of-14 free throws and led four
Heidelberg players in double figures with 20 points.
Five ties and three lead changes covered the game's first 12
minutes and Mount Union held a 21-20 when the Raiders would go on a
15-8 surge capped by a Switzer steal and layup to make the score
36-28 with 33 seconds left in the half. Heidelberg would hit
a three-pointer at the halftime buzzer to leave the score 36-31 at
the break.
The Raiders would then outscore Heidelberg 11-4 to open the
second half which would get finished off with a Switzer layup and
free throw after a foul gave Mount Union a 47-35 lead and all the
cushion it would need as the Berg got no closer than nine points
the rest of the way.
Mount Union stays home hosting John Carroll University Wednesday at
7:30 p.m. at Timken Gymnasium. The Blue Streaks are tied for
first place in the OAC and have won 10-straight games including a
94-88 overtime win against the Raiders on Jan. 3.
