The win snapped a two-game slide for Mount Union as it now
stands at 12-6 overall and 7-5 in the OAC, while Heidelberg falls
to 5-14 overall and 2-10 in the OAC.
The Purple Raiders appeared to have the game well in hand as
they led by as many as 20 points in the first half and were up
40-28 at halftime, but Heidelberg came out and started the second
half on a 20-7 run to take a 48-47 lead with 13 minutes left.
Each team would exchange the lead and with score tied at 50
Mount Union scored 15 of the next 19 points to take a 65-54 lead
with 6:35 remaining. Heidelberg would again rally as they had
a 16-5 run to tie the game at 70 with 28 seconds left and set up
Rose's heroics. Stephanie Schwartz (Farmdale/Maplewood)
nailed a pair of free throws for the four-point final.
Junior Tessa Pohovey (Strasburg/Tusky Valley) was the only
Raider in double figures with 18, while Stacey Richard had a
game-high 23 points and Brittany Skolnicki had 19 to lead
Heidelberg.
Mount Union stays on the road playing next Wednesday, Feb. 4 at
7:30 p.m. at John Carroll University. The game will be
televised via tape delay on SportsTime Ohio and replayed on
Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 11 p.m.; Thursday, Feb. 5 at noon and Friday,
Feb. 6 at 5 a.m.
