Volleyball Splits a Pair at Westminster

(NEW WILMINGTON, PA)--Mount Union split a pair of matches falling to Thomas More (KY) 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-21) and beating Westminster (PA) 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-14) in a tri-match Saturday in New Wilmington, PA.

The matches ended a two-day, two-state, four-match swing for the Raiders and left their record at 18-4 overall.

Against Thomas More, Melissa Mahnke (North Royalton/North Royalton) posted eight kills, 14 digs and four blocks to lead Mount Union.

Setter Katie Kmieck (Lakewood/Lakewood) tallied 21 assists and junior libero Sarah Dean (Strongsville/Walsh Jesuit) had 14 digs as well.

In the sweep of Westminster, Sarah Parker (Geneva/Geneva) had nine kills, Kmieck had 17 assists and 10 digs, while Mahnke and Dean also had 10 digs.

Mahnke now has 1,513 career kills which leaves her just four shy of beating the school's all-time record of 1,516 held by Kelly Roach (1997-2000).

Mount Union returns home Tuesday to host Muskingum in an OAC match at 7 pm at The McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance.  The match will also be the "Dig for Pink" match as pink shirts and donations will be sold to promote breast cancer awareness.
