King Caps Comeback With Three For Win Over Marietta

King's game-winner gave him a game-high 14 points as he went 5-for-5 from the floor in his first game of the season coming back from a preseason injury.

King was one of five players in double figures, as sophomore Wes Kanavel (Zanesville/West Muskingum) came off the bench for 13 points and eight rebounds while sophomores Ben Hodkinson (Tippecanoe/Harrison Central), Jimmy Wood (Wintersville/Indian Creek) and Matt Wier (New Castle, PA/Mohawk) each had 11, 10 and 10 respectively for a Mount Union team that is now 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the OAC.

Joe Puch had 13 points and Zane Carter came off the bench with 10 to lead Marietta (3-2, 1-1 OAC).

Mount Union jumped out to a 12-4 lead to start the game and had a 30-25 game at the break, but Marietta rallied as they opened the second half on a 23-7 run as a Carter jumper gave the Pioneers a 48-37 lead with 12 minutes to play.

The Raiders responded with a 12-2 surge with King scoring the last five of those to close the gap to one, 50-49 with 6:28 to go.

Marietta ran the lead back out to six points, 60-54 with three minutes to go, but the Pioneers did not score again.
