Women's Basketball Defeats Marietta in Conference Opener

Mount Union came out firing with a 16-4 run within the first five minutes of the game and never surrendered the lead for the rest of the game.

 

Senior Tessa Pohovey (Strasburg/Tusky Valley) had a game-high 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting.  Sophomore Amanda Rose (Uniontown/Green) recorded her first double-double of the season with 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting and 10 rebounds. 

 

Freshman Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) chipped in with eight points and led the team with seven assists.

 

Junior Taylor Hartung (Canton/Massillon Perry) also added 10 points off the bench.

 

Marietta, led by Aleisha Guiler with 25 points and 13 rebounds, falls to 2-3, 0-1 in the OAC.

 

The Purple Raiders improve to 5-0 on the season and 1-0 in the OAC, and remain the OAC's lone undefeated team at 5-0 overall.

 

Mount Union returns home to host Wilmington in an OAC matchup Saturday in a game that has been moved to tip-off at 4 pm.
