Women's Basketball Defeats First Place Capital

Mount Union improves to 14-7 overall, 9-6 in conference play and snaps a 12-game losing streak to Capital (15-6 overall, 12-4 OAC) dating back to the 2002-03 season.

Junior Tessa Pohovey (Strasburg/Tusky Valley) scored 15 of her team-high 21 points in the second half and Forquer came off the bench with 10 points to lead the Purple Raiders.

Daniele Sanna had a game high 23 points and Kristen Richardson and Caitlin Elsass added 10 each for the Crusaders.

Capital scored the first basket of the game and would never trail in the entire first half going on a 16-4 run that spanned just over 7 minutes to lift them to a 36-28 lead at the half.

In the second half, the Raiders were able to continue to cut into the Capital lead, and a jumper by Pohovey made the Crusader advantage just one with 44 seconds to play. After a turnover by Richardson, the Raiders took the lead for good on the shot by Forquer to win the game 65-64.

The Raiders will travel to Wilmington, Ohio on Saturday February 14 to continue OAC conference play against the Quakers. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
