The win was John Carroll's 11th in a row makes them 15-4 overall
and allows them to stay in a first place tie with Capital
University at 11-2 in the OAC. Mount Union sees a two-game
win streak end and the Purple Raiders are now 11-9 overall and 5-8
in the OAC.
Corey Shontz nailed seven of 11 shots from the floor including
five three-pointers to tally a game-high 22 points as one of four
players in double figures and lead a John Carroll team that
converted 13 of 23 three point shots.
Mount Union got 20 points from Chris Switzer (Euclid/Stow-Munroe
Falls), a second-straight double-double from Dave Pellerite
(Olmsted Falls/Olmsted Falls) with 16 points and 10 rebounds along
with 10 points from Jay Mathis (Tallmadge/Tallmadge).
The Raiders did hold an 18-17 lead when Pellerite hit a layup with
10:20 remaining in the first half, but Mount Union would be
outscored 27-7 for the rest of the frame as John Carroll would go
on a 14-0 run to close out the half and lead 44-25 at the half and
cruise the rest of the way.
Mount Union plays the OAC's two Central Ohio schools on the road
next with a game Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at Otterbein College
in Westerville and then next Wednesday (Feb. 11) at 7 p.m. at No. 8
in the nation Capital University in Bexley.
