Mount Union moves to 13-7 overall and at 8-6 in the conference
are tied with Wilmington College in fourth place, while Otterbein
falls to 11-10 overall and 7-7 in the OAC.
Sophomore Katie Crider (Brunswick/Brunswick) hit a pair of key
three pointers in the second half on her way to 12 points, while
senior Stephanie Schwartz (Farmdale/Maplewood) and junior Tessa
Pohovey (Strasburg/Tusky Valley) each tallied 10 points to lead the
Purple Raiders.
Katy Miller had a game-high 18 points, Carla Lewis had 14 and Laura
Roth had 10 points all in the second half for the Cardinals.
Mount Union would jump out to a 12-6 lead to start the game, before
Otterbein would answer with nine-straight to take a 17-12 lead with
13:34 left in the half. Mount Union surged ahead again with
an 8-2 burst to retake the lead 20-19 and the team's would exchange
the lead five times the remainder of the half until Otterbein would
take a 36-33 lead at the half.
The Cardinals would score nine of the first 11 points of the second
half and a layup by Roth at the 17:18 mark gave them their largest
lead of the game, 45-35. Over the next two minutes, the
Raiders would come right back with nine points in a row to close
the gap to a point, 45-44.
Otterbein would take the lead back out six points at 52-46 with
just under 13 minutes left when Crider would nail back-to-back
threes to tie the game at 52. The teams would again go back
and forth each taking turns with the lead and a Lewis layup with
5:58 to play gave Otterbein a 62-61 lead. That would be the
final field goal the Cardinals would make as Mount Union would
three Otterbein turnovers and finish the game on an 8-1 run for the
win.
Mount Union stays home to host the conference's top team in Capital
University next Wednesday (Feb. 11) at 7:30 p.m. at Timken
Gymnasium.
