Volleyball Splits a Pair at Wittenberg Border Battle

(SPRINGFIELD, OH)--Mount Union College's volleyball team took its first two losses of the season to No. 8 in nation Hope (MI) College and No. 10 in the nation Calvin (MI) College but rallied to get wins against Edison Community College and Alma (MI) College at the Wittenberg Border Battle in Springfield, OH.

The Purple Raiders (10-2 overall) took a 3-2 (19-25, 20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 15-12) loss #8 Hope then came back with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-21) win over Edison Community College on Friday.

Then on Saturday Mount Union came back with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-16) loss to #10 Calvin before getting a win against Alma (MI) 3-1 (25-13, 25-19, 25-12, 25-16).

"Hope and Calvin are two great programs, but we were are own worst enemy as we made way too many mistakes to win," commented Mount Union head coach Leigh Ann Matesich.  "We still have two more matches before conference play starts and we need to work hard to be ready."

Mount Union begins a three-match homestand Wednesday at 7 pm against Hiram College at The McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance.
