(ALLIANCE, OH)—Mount Union College's volleyball team won the 2009 Mount Union Invitational after posting a 3-0 victory over Adrian (MI) College (25-13, 25-7, 25-6) and a 3-1 victory over Alma (MI) College (25-18, 25-14, 12-25, 25-20) Satruday at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance.
The wins keeps the Purple Raiders perfect on the season at 5-0 overall.
Against Adrian, senior Melissa Mahnke (North Royalton/North Royalton), totaled eight kills, nine digs and a service ace. Mahnke was also named Tournament MVP. Senior Sarah Parker (Geneva/Geneva) totaled six kills, and ten attacks and one block. sophomore Julie Radigan (Olmsted Falls/Olmsted Falls) finished with fourteen assists and junior Sarah Dean (Strongsville/Walsh Jesuit) finished with fourteen digs and 21 attacks to lead the Purple Raiders.
Against Alma College, team leaders included Tournament MVP Mahnke with 17 kills and 42 attacks, Radigan with 36 assists, Parker with 22 attacks, and Dean with 13 digs.
The Mount Union College Volleyball Invitational All-Tournament Team included three Purple Raiders: Mahnke, Parker, and Radigan.
Mount Union heads to The College of Mount St. Joseph Invitational next weekend in Cincinnati.
