Senior guard Tessa Pohovey (Strasburg/Tusky Valley) had a
game-high 17 points, freshman guard Rosa LaMattina
(Westlake/Westlake) had 12 while sophomore forward Amanda Rose
(Uniontown/Green) and junior center Lauren Forquer (North
Canton/Green) each had 11 points to pace Mount Union.
Case Western Reserve (9-2) lost for only the second time this
season and was led by senior Ashleigh Tondo, who had 11 points to
go over 1,000 points for her career.
The Spartans took advantage of seven Purple Raider turnovers in the
game's opening six minutes and led 11-6 after an Evy Iacono
jumper.
Mount Union quickly tied the game at 17 over the next four minutes
then put its foot on the accelerator as the Purple Raiders
outscored Case 27-8 for the rest of the half to take a commanding
44-25 lead at the half.
Mount Union torched the nets in the opening half hitting 17-of-28
shots (60.7-percent) with seven three-pointers and held Case
Western Reserve to 29.4-percent from the floor (10-of-34).
The Purple Raiders kept the pressure on in the second half as the
Spartans got no closer than 15 points the rest of the way.
Mount Union returns to Ohio Athletic Conference play next week
hosting Baldwin-Wallace Wednesday, Jan. 6 at 7:30 pm and Otterbein
Saturday, Jan. 9 at 3 pm.
