#20 Women's Basketball Off to Best Start in Team History After 77-57 Win Over Case Western Reserve

Senior guard Tessa Pohovey (Strasburg/Tusky Valley) had a game-high 17 points, freshman guard Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) had 12 while sophomore forward Amanda Rose (Uniontown/Green) and junior center Lauren Forquer (North Canton/Green) each had 11 points to pace Mount Union.

Case Western Reserve (9-2) lost for only the second time this season and was led by senior Ashleigh Tondo, who had 11 points to go over 1,000 points for her career.

The Spartans took advantage of seven Purple Raider turnovers in the game's opening six minutes and led 11-6 after an Evy Iacono jumper.

Mount Union quickly tied the game at 17 over the next four minutes then put its foot on the accelerator as the Purple Raiders outscored Case 27-8 for the rest of the half to take a commanding 44-25 lead at the half.

Mount Union torched the nets in the opening half hitting 17-of-28 shots (60.7-percent) with seven three-pointers and held Case Western Reserve to 29.4-percent from the floor (10-of-34).

The Purple Raiders kept the pressure on in the second half as the Spartans got no closer than 15 points the rest of the way.

Mount Union returns to Ohio Athletic Conference play next week hosting Baldwin-Wallace Wednesday, Jan. 6 at 7:30 pm and Otterbein Saturday, Jan. 9 at 3 pm.
