Kortney Kin had a game-high 24 points to lead the Quakers who
evened their record at 6-6 in the OAC and now 10-9 overall.
Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) had 13 and Kori Wiedt (North
Olmsted/North Olmsted) had 11 points to pace the Purple Raiders,
who are now 16-3 overall and 9-3 in the OAC and have failed to win
at Wilmington since the Quakers joined the conference in 2000
(0-13).
Mount Union stayed in the game as they forced 31 Wilmington
turnovers, but the poor shooting did not allow the Raiders to
convert on those opportunities.
The Raiders found themselves down 21-14 midway through the first
half but forced five straight turnovers to spark a 11-0 and an
Amanda Rose (Uniontown/Green) basket and free throw gave Mount
Union a 25-21 lead with seven minutes left in the half.
The score was tied at 27 with 4:15 left in the frame when
Wilmington finished the half on a 11-2 run to take a 38-29 lead at
the break.
Mount Union would rally opening the second half on a 7-2 run to get
back to within four, 40-36 with 17 minutes to play. The
Quakers came back with seven straight points to get the lead back
out to 11 points and extended the lead to 16, 56-40 with nine
minutes left.
The Raiders came all the way back as a Wiedt three pointer with 25
seconds left closed the gap to 62-58, but Wilmington went 4-of-4
from the line to put the game away.
Mount Union returns home to the MAAC for a pair of OAC games next
week hosting John Carroll Wednesday (Feb. 3) at 7:30 pm and Ohio
Northern Saturday (Feb. 6) at 3 pm.
