Cold Spell Continues as #15/16 Women's Basketball Takes Second Straight Loss

Kristi Kotterman scored a game-high 17 points, Katy Miller had 12 and Shea McCoy had 10 for Otterbein as the Cardinals moved to 5-9 overall and 2-5 in the OAC.

Rosa LaMattina (Westlake/Westlake) had 11 points and was the only Purple Raider in double figures as Mount Union falls to 12-2 overall and 5-2 in the OAC.

LaMattina gave Mount Union a 3-0 lead to start the game, but the Raiders then missed their next 10 shots from the floor while Otterbein ran out to an 11-4 lead.  The Cardinals would stretch that lead to as many as 14 points, 21-7, when Rachel Snedegar hit a layup with 9:42 left in the period.  Otterbein would take a 13-point advantage, 30-17, into the half.  Mount Union would finish the half hitting just 6-of-30 (20-percent) shots.

The Cardinals extended the lead to 21 points in the opening minutes of the second half as a Katie Stallard layup made it 40-19 with 15:46 remaining.  Mount Union rallied late getting it back to five points, 51-46 with 1:08 to play, but a Kristi Kotterman three-pointer on the next possession stretched the lead back to eight and Otterbein went on to the nine point win.

Mount Union did not shoot much better in the second half making just 9-of-32 shots in the period to finish the game 17-of-62 (27-percent).  It was also the second straight game that the Raiders were out-rebounded as the Cardinals held a 47-35 edge on the boards.

Mount Union plays next Wednesday, Jan. 13 at Muskingum in an OAC contest at 7:30 pm in New Concord.
