Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio—Thomas Beck
(Poland/Cardinal Mooney) scored the game's lone goal in the 61st
minute, as the Mount Union's men's soccer team defeated John
Carroll in an Ohio Athletic conference matchup Wednesday at Mount
Union Stadium.
The victory was the Purple Raiders first over the Blue Streaks
since 2003 and improves their record to 8-4-1 overall and 3-1-0 in
the OAC, while John Carroll suffers its first OAC loss and falls to
9-5-0, 3-1-0 OAC.
Chris
Felker (Boardman/Cardinal Mooney) led Beck with a through ball
into space for the assist. After getting by the lone defender, Beck
placed the ball in the bottom corner of the net from 18 yards out.
John Carroll had several good scoring opportunities as they
outshot Mount Union, 18-6 but was repeatedly turned away by the
stout Purple Raider defense.
John Carroll keeper Matt DeMarchi's, who was pulled late, had a
header in the final seconds that was knocked away to secure the
victory.
Purple Raider goalkeeper Jon Critell
(Youngstown/Cardinal Mooney) saved seven shots as he recorded his
second straight and fourth shutout of the season.
DeMarchi stopped one shot for the visitors.
Mount Union returns to action on Saturday, October 16, when it
visits Heidelberg. The game is scheduled for 4 p.m.
